PRISON ISLAND:
A prison built in 1892. It was never actually used as a prison and currently an attraction for tourists as it is known as a famous place for the giant tortoise. After a 30min boat ride with a beautiful view of Stone Town one also gets to see the other three island thus grave island, Snake Island and Bawe island, guests will meet the contemporary inhabitants of the island and the giant tortoises which were banned from the city of Stone Town which are more than 200 years.

History of Zanzibar
During the exploitation age, Zanzibar was under the Portuguese empire; Later in 1698 Zanzibar fell under the control of sultan of Oman who introduced several businesses to the island including ivory transportation and slave trade business, by importing slave to foreign countries selling them as commodities.
Later on there was an invasion of British hence a war between them and Arabs (under the sultanate of Oman) leading to the British Empire taking over Zanzibar island from the sultan of Oman. Part of their mission was the abolition of the lave trade. In 1890 Zanzibar became officially under British Empire, however later on in 1963 Zanzibar gained its independence from British and become an independent island
